Pron. hi-c, hae-c, ho-c je sestavljen iz poudarjajoče part. hi in kazalne naslonke ce [gl. to besedo]. Pri sklonih, ki se končujejo na „s“, ta ce pogosto odpade, tako da brez razlike uporabljamo dvojne oblike huius in huiusce, hos, has in hosce, hasce. a) = sedanji, današnji, naš: haec aetas, haec tempora, hic dies, hic status rerum, hi mores Ci., hac annonā Ci. ob sedanji draginji, in hac magnificentia L. ob sedanjem sijaju, quantum haec Niobe Niobe distabat ab illa O. sedanja od prejšnje; huncine solem tam nigrum surrexe mihi! H.; pron., ki kaže na pravkar pretekli čas: per hos annos Ci. v zadnjih letih, hoc triduo vel quatriduo Ci. v zadnjih treh ali štirih dneh, ante hos sex menses Ph. pred (zadnjimi) šestimi meseci.
b) = ta (to), o komer (čemer) se ravno govori, ki se pravkar obravnava ali o komer (čemer) se ravno razpravlja, pričujoči (-a, -e): hic sapiens, de quo loquimur Ci., haec causa Ci., hic nobis orator ita confirmandus est Q. Nepot vedno imenuje glavno osebo posameznega življenjepisa hic = ta mož: hunc … historici laudibus extulerunt N., hunc Athenienses diu … desideraverunt N.; neutr. sg. subst.: quidquid ego huius feci Ter. vse, kar sem pri tej stvari storil.

3. hic v naspr. z ille
a) (kadar govorimo o dveh že imenovanih osebah ali stvareh, tako da pomeni ille bolj oddaljeno, prej imenovano osebo ali stvar, hic pa bližjo, pozneje omenjeno) ta, ta, to — oni, ona, ono: Caesar magnus habebatur et Cato; ille misericordiā clarus factus, huic severitas dignitatem addiderat S., ignavia corpus hebetat, labor firmat: illa maturam senectutem, hic longam adulescentiam reddit Cels.; redkeje kaže hic na prej imenovano osebo ali stvar in to le tedaj, če je ta (oseba ali stvar) govorečemu bližja po njegovem čutenju ali zanimanju (ne krajevno ali časovno): cave Catoni anteponas Socratem; huius (= Catonis) enim facta, illius (= Socratis) dicta laudantur Ci. ki mu je rojak Katon bližji kot Grk Sokrat, melior est certa pax quam sperata victoria; haec (pax) in tua, illa (victoria) in deorum manu est L. (ker je govorniku mir bolj pri srcu kot zmaga).
b) (brez povezave z dvema že omenjenima osebama ali stvarema) eden — drugi: homines diversissimis studiis ducuntur: hic honoribus petendis, ille divitiis quaerendis operam dat Ci.; pesn. in poklas. tudi hic — hic.

4. (kadar se nanaša na besede govorečega)
a) kaže na pravkar povedano = ta, ta, to: haec habui, de amicitia quae dicerem Ci. (ob koncu svojega spisa De amicitia), hi Catilinae proximi familiaresque sunt Ci.
b) kaže na to, kar sledi = tale, tale, tole, sledeči, naslednji: his verbis eum adlocutus est Ci., in hunc modum locutus est C., in quibus (litteris) haec fuisse scripta Thucydides memoriae prodidit: „Pausanias … tibi muneri misit“ N., pax convenit his condicionibus, res hoc modo (takole) facta est L., illa … his est resecuta rogantem: „quisquis es, ignoscas“. a) = toliko, le toliko: hoc dico, hoc certum est ali constat Ci.
b) s partitivnim gen.: quid hoc morbi est?
